Eyelash extensions are individual synthetic lashes that come in different lengths, curls and weight (thickness). Synthetic lashes keep their curl and respond better to wear and tear than other materials such as extensions created from animal hairs, such as mink. In addition, synthetic lashes have the least possible chance of allergic reactions with the skin. Extensions are applied one-by-one to each individual natural lash as an ‘extension’ of your natural lash and are fully customizable. Lash extensions are not strip lashes or clusters. Lash extensions are meant to lengthen, thicken and enhance the natural lash line. The client’s face shape, eye shape, eye placement, and brow arch are taken into account to create a unique look for every client. You will feel no pain, discomfort or lash loss when applied properly. It is a relaxing, non-invasive treatment and most clients take the time to catch up on their beauty sleep!
A full set application can take up to 1 1/2 - 2 hours, depending on how many natural lashes you have. On average the human eye has 60-120 lashes per eye. However, not everyone has the same amount of natural lashes. With this being said, keep in mind that you may not get the same exact look as another person. The more lashes that you have, the more extensions I can apply! This is a meticulous procedure that requires patience and concentration. Therefore, it is important not to rush the process so that you can leave with a perfect set of lashes!
Your new lashes will last between 2 to 3 weeks or longer depending on your own natural lash life cycle and how well you take care of them. Your lash extensions are applied to your own individual eyelashes and will shed as your natural lashes shed. Maintaining your lash extensions will require regular visits to attach new extensions to your own eyelash as your eyelash growth cycle regenerates new lashes. The average cycle for eyelash growth is 60 - 90 days and about 1 - 5 lashes shed per day. To maintain the full look of your lashes, it will require you to maintain refills every 2-3 weeks.
No! When applied properly, with perfect isolation and weight eyelash extensions will not harm your natural lashes. The integrity of your natural lashes are the most important. When you arrive for your appointment your natural lashes will be evaluated to ensure you get the lashes that work best for you so that you will never have damage or breakage! Please see next frequently asked question to see if lashes are right for you.
Unfortunately, eyelash extensions may not be right for you. If you have very short, very few lashes (large gaps), or very brittle natural lashes, extensions will most likely bring more attention to your gaps in the lash line and/or damage your natural lashes. This is because your natural lashes cannot support the weight of the extension. If you have minimal natural lashes you will get a minimal amount of extensions. Extensions are only applied to natural lashes and NEVER on the skin. Individuals with any allergy to adhesives or cyanoacrylate adhesives are also not good candidates. When a client is experiencing an allergic reaction to their lash extensions, it is most often because they are allergic to cyanoacrylate. It is the base ingredient that is found in all lash adhesives. If you are worried of an allergy to the adhesive a patch test can be provided. A few lashes can be applied to each eye at no charge before receiving a full set to see if a reaction occurs. While a very small percentage of clients develop an allergic reaction to eyelash extension adhesive, this allergy itself is not especially dangerous. Symptoms will disappear once the eyelash extensions are removed.
Yes! I choose only the best in quality and safety when choosing an adhesive. A medical-grade adhesive is formulated in the USA to be formaldehyde and preservative-free, as well as latex-free. The glue is a low-viscosity, very fast drying/curing adhesive with just enough flexibility between the natural lash and the extension for a soft natural feel without causing irritation. This is why it is of the utmost importance to go to a licensed and certified technician as many unqualified providers can use adhesives that are manufactured overseas full of formaldehyde and other carcinogenic ingredients.
Yes! Lashes can be removed safely in about 30 minutes with a professional adhesive remover. Please DO NOT attempt to remove extensions yourself at home. In addition, do not pull or cut your lashes! You will risk damaging your natural lashes. If you have any concerns regarding your extensions please book an appointment to change the length or have a removal.
Yes, however most clients do not feel the need to wear any eye makeup after getting their beautiful extensions applied! I personally recommend my clients to not use mascara on their lashes and use minimal eyeshadow/eyeliner to get the best retention possible. If you wear mascara, the longevity of your extensions will be greatly reduced. You can wear mascara on the bottom lashes, however, you must remove all your eye makeup with a water-based cleanser before you go to sleep or your makeup will goop/clump up the extensions and cause the adhesive to break down resulting in your extensions coming off prematurely. If you do apply makeup you must only apply water based mascara and eyeliner. DO NOT USE OIL-BASED OR WATER-PROOF MASCARA/LINER. Waterproof mascara and any type of oil based makeup dissolves the bonding agent of the extensions and causes them to fall out sooner. Also, take care in washing off all eye makeup. Only use a water based eye makeup remover such as the one I provide at the shop. I provide aftercare kits with everything you need for proper aftercare and best retention!
• Avoid getting your lashes wet for the first 24 hrs as it will affect the efficacy of the adhesive.
• Avoid steam from showers, facials, saunas and swimming pools. As well as heat from the sun and tanning beds.
• Be mindful of using ovens, blowdryers and sitting near fires. The intense heat will cause the synthetic lashes to singe.
• Never allow shower water to beat directly on your extensions. Constant pressure on the extensions can cause them to "pop" off or wear off sooner than normal.
• Avoid using oil-based skincare and makeup products around the eye, including mascara and makeup remover.
• Never use mascara on your extensions, as this will shorten the lifespan of your extensions, cause clumping, and dissolve the adhesive. You can use mascara on your bottom lashes.
• Avoid any added tension to the lashes. This includes rubbing/pulling at the eye area, using an eyelash curler, applying strip lashes and sleeping face down.
• Gently brush and cleanse lashes on a daily basis. Comb the tips of your extensions with the spoolie brush provided as needed to straighten and "fluff" your extensions.
• Avoid using Q-tips or anything containing lint as it will snag on the extensions
• Receive regular fills to maintain the fullness and natural look of your extensions
Prior to your appointment, try your best to arrive with clean, makeup free eyes. Arriving with clean eyes will help minimize the cleanup and leave more time for lashing! Do not curl your lashes as this makes it harder to apply the extensions. Also be mindful of your caffeine intake such as drinking a lot of coffee before your appointment. Caffeine makes the eyes flutter which also makes lashing very difficult and not as comfortable for you. Eyes should remain closed during the application process due to mild fumes from the adhesive so fluttering may cause some irritation.
